Troubleshooting
If a feature is not working as expected, check the following first:
- On a clean install, tap Continue to proceed into the native Photos and Contacts permission prompts.
- Make sure Photos or Contacts permission is enabled in iOS Settings.
- Keep the device unlocked and charging for longer indexing tasks.
- Re-open the app after changing permissions.
- Use the in-app diagnostics screen if a scan appears stuck.
Troubleshooting guides
- Photos access: On first launch, the app proceeds directly to the native Photos prompt after you tap Continue. If Photos access was previously denied, open iOS Settings, allow Photos access for StorageCleaner, then reopen the app and scan again.
- Contacts access: Contacts cleanup only works after the native Contacts permission is granted. If access was previously denied, restore it in iOS Settings and reopen the app.
- Similar-photo indexing and interrupted scans: Keep the device unlocked and charging for longer scans. If you leave the app, reopen it and use the dashboard or diagnostics screen to continue from the saved state.
- On-device AI model loading: If Similar Photos cannot start, reinstall the current App Store build and relaunch the app.
- Embedding failures: Retry the scan after freeing a little local storage and closing other memory-heavy apps.
- Corrupted local index: Reopen the app and rescan your library to rebuild local analysis data on-device.
- Low storage warnings: Use dashboard insights first, then remove screenshots, duplicates, or compress videos to recover space gradually.
- Storage dashboard unavailable: Restart the app and give iOS a moment to refresh storage reporting before scanning again.
- Video compression issues: Make sure the source video is still in your library and that the device has enough free space for the optimized copy.
- Analysis skipped: Some items may be skipped when iOS reports incomplete metadata. Try again after reopening the Photos app.
- Contact merge issues: Review the suggested duplicate contacts carefully and make sure each entry is still available locally on the device.
- Saving cleanup snapshots: If the app cannot save a cleanup snapshot, free a little device storage and retry.
Safety and privacy
- StorageCleaner is designed so AI processing happens on-device.
- Your library is not uploaded to cloud servers for core AI analysis.
- Nothing is deleted automatically. Every cleanup suggestion is reviewed first.
- Permission recovery routes send people to Settings only after a prior denial has already been recorded by the system.
